Three Rivers Receives SPIE Outreach Grant

SPIE, an international society advancing the science and technology of light, has awarded Three Rivers a grant to support Laser Camp '10, a three- day activity for high school students. Last year's Laser Camp was attended by more than 60 juniors and seniors from Windham, H. H. Ellis and Norwich Technical High Schools, Plainfield High School and Woodstock Academy. The students spent two days in the Laser and Fiber Optic Technology (LFOT) labs at Three Rivers and a third day touring Trumpf, Inc. in Farmington, the world's largest manufacturere of carbon dioxide industrial lasers. Laser Camp is also supported by EASTCONN and the Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing.

Judy Donnelly, LFOT Program Coordinator, received the award from SPIE President Maria Yzuel at the Optics and Photonics Conference in San Diego, CA. Planning for Laser Camp '10, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the laser, begins in September.
