What is the certificate in Laser and Fiber Optic Technology?

This is a 15 credit academic certificate. While it is designed with the electronic, mechanical or manufacturing technician in the photonics industry in mind, it is open to anyone who meets the program and course prerequisites*. Of course, any of the courses may be taken separately as long as prerequisites are met.

The certificate may also be used to fulfill open and technical electives in the AAS in General Engineering Technology and AS in Technological Studies. All courses apply to the A.S. degree in Laser and Fiber Optic Technology.

To earn the certificate you must complete the following courses:

*Certificate prerequisite: Placement score into ENG 101 level OR an earned Associate Degree.

Do I have to take all of the courses?

No. You may take one or two courses as needed. Or, you can take the entire program and be awarded the Certificate in Laser and Fiber Optic Technology.

How do I take the lab courses online?

The lab portions of each course will be handled differently - for the Introduction to Photonics course, students will purchase a "home kit" and do experiments on their at home or at work. Other courses have labs offered at Three Rivers.

What are the prerequisites?

To earn the certificate you must place into ENG 101 College Composition OR have earned an Associate Degree. Individual courses have prerequisites; consult the current catalog course descriptions at www.trcc.commnet.edu.
